How to Convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone

Your iPhone shoots photos in HEIC by default. Usually it converts them to JPG automatically when you share — but sometimes you need an actual .jpg file. The Shortcuts app can make one, or you can convert right in Safari on this page.

Method 1: Use the Shortcuts app

   Create a shortcut

   Open the Shortcuts app, tap the + button, and add the Convert Image action.

   Set the output to JPEG

   In the Convert Image action, set the format to JPEG (the default) and choose your preferred quality.

   Run it on any photo

   Run the shortcut, pick a photo, and it saves a JPG copy to your Photos library. Add a Save to Files step if you want to export the .jpg elsewhere.

Method 2: Stop shooting HEIC for future photos

If you would rather never deal with HEIC again, change the camera format. Open Settings → Camera → Formats and pick Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG instead of HEIC — but this only affects future photos, not the ones you already have.

Method 3: Convert in Safari (this page)

Open this page in Safari, tap the box below, and pick a photo from your library. The conversion runs locally on your iPhone — your photos are never uploaded.
